1:2:2 Equation for photosynthesis Flashcards
1
Q
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
A
Carbon dioxide+water powered by chlorophyll and light=oxygen+glucose
2
Q
What is the balanced chemical formula for photosynthesis?
A
6CO2+6H2O=C6H12O6+6O2
3
Q
Where does photosynthesis take place?
A
In the palisade cells of the leaf.
4
Q
Draw and label the layers of a leaf.
A
-

Q
What three things adapt for light absorption?
A
- Epidermis- has cell wall as a physical defence which is transparent to allow light through. It also lacks chloroplasts (allows light to get to the whole leaf)
- Waxy Cuticle- Physical defence, transparent to allow light in, waterproof to reduce water loss.
- Palisade Mesophyll cells- tightly packed with many chloroplasts to increase photosynthesis.

Q
What three things adapt for gas exchange?
A
- Spongy mesophyll cells- have few chloroplasts, large surface area for gas exchange.
- Intercellular spaces- allow diffusion of gases through the leaf.
- Guard cells and stomata- Control the opening and closing of stomata pores, allows gases to diffuse in and out of leaf.
