It was situated on the edge of the Roman Empire. Whoever controlled Palestine controlled all the major trade routes in and out of Europe, Africa and Asia

Galilee was ruled by Herod Antipas (a son of king Herod), while Samaria and Judaea were both ruled by Pontius Pilate.
What was the role of a governor
A roman governor had to make sure that the Jewish people of Palestine obeyed Roman laws and paid Roman taxes
Why did the Jews not like Roman rule?
They did not like Roman rule because they believed they were “God’s chosen people”, to be ruled by God alone

They didn’t like tax collectors because they worked for the Romans and some tax collectors took more than their share and became very wealthy
