- To express joy at creation and life
- To give thanks when things turn out well or for a particular blessing
- Ask for help or guidance in times of need
- Say sorry when they have done something wrong

Catholics sometimes pray alone when the want to have as private conversation with God
Give an example of communal prayer
At Mass, when Catholics gather as a community to pray and worship God
How did Jesus teach his disciples to pray?

Silent prayer
Is usually (but not always) personal prayer. Silence can be part of group prayer too
Vocal prayer
Is usually (but not always) public prayer. You can pray aloud on your own but more commonly as part of a community of faith
