She trained as a teacher and was sent to Calcutta, India to become a principle of a high school

She was horrified by the vast number of sick and dying on the streets. She knew it was wrong and was determined to do something about it, although she didn’t know what at first

In 1946 she was travelling to Darjeeling by train and really felt God calling her to do something about the injustices. His message was clear and she decided to leave the convent and help the poor by living among them
