The stage beyond self interest where people take the needs of others into account when making moral decisions

A
- Acts out of the desire for reward or fear of punishment
- Is selfish and only considers his/her own needs
- Ignores the consequences of his or her behaviour on others

How does the morally mature person behave?
A
- Acts out of a deep personal conviction about what is right and wrong
- Is altruistic and considers the needs of others
- Will stop to think of the consequences before deciding to act
- Has the courage of his/her convictions and will actually do what he/she believes to be right
