Can we identify an acceptable level of risk?
differentiates per person. so what one person thinks is an acceptable lvl is diff than another person.
What is risk?
the extent that the outcomes of a decision are uncertain. risk often managed rather than sought, yet many ppl seek it out and experience joy from engaging in risky activities.
What is the difference btwn hazards and risks?
Hazards: potential sources of harm or danger. Risks: the possibility that smthn bad/unpleasant/negative will occur. Risks = hazards÷safeguards
What is the value of risky recreation?
means of self expression, can promote and develop self-efficacy. the voluntary pursuit of excellence is often encouraged.
What is parkour?
goal is to move form one place to another using only your body and the enviro.
What is the tragedy of the commons?
commons was a space for common use, but wasnt taken care of and highlighted the tensions btwn self interest and pursuing collective goals.
what do the arguments used to justify risk taking say?
appeal to informed self-expression and the voluntary pursuit of risk. rejects the idea that risk always needs to be minimized or avoided. risky behaviour is context and skill dependent.
What is privacy?
western culture phenomenon. right to be let alone. the condition of not having undocumented personal knowledge about one possessed by others.
What are the privacy distinctions?
- physical 2. informational 3. surveillance
What is the right to privacy in canada?
federal have charter of rights and freedoms, the privacy act, the personal information protection and electronic documents act, and the digital privacy act. in manitoba have; FIPPA and PHIA - for pts.
What are the functions of privacy?
autonomy over your significant personal matters. limitations placed on access others have to you. positive fxns; free from interference form others. negative fxns; cloak to hide under. so bad behaviours are hidden.
