A

to think more intentionally, seriously, rigorously, and thoroughly about PA and L. Altering traditional views of PA and L, as it it is often devalued. It’s big picture thinking about PA and L.

What is one doing when philosophizing?

A

tackling big q’s without easy answers. by engaging in philosophy we seek to recognize assumptions and value judgements. philosophically interesting q’s dont have everyone in agreeance.

What is axiology?

A

The study of value, ethics, and aesthetics. so aesthetics is the study of beauty, and ethics is the study of the good life and how we ought to live.

A

The study of knowledge and thinking. so what knowledge do we accept and why. the know-how and know-that concept.

What are the different philosophical perspectives, and how they relate?

A

Philosophy; reasoning and logic. religion; belief and faith. science; experiment and observation. phil can be at odds with both these but doesnt need to be combative and can respect both disciplines. can also be arguments pertaining to diff fields. so, philosophy is distinct from, but compatible with religion and science.

A

it is observational info based on our senses, and is the goal of science. it is used in phil as basis of argument.

What is the difference btwn descriptive and prescriptive statements?

A

descriptive is about the fact of the matter so what can i do. prescriptive is a bout what ought to be the case/ what ought to be done, so what should i do.

What are the methods of philosophic inquiry?

A

evaluating arguments - looking at if evidence is reliable or not. distinguishing arguments form opinions. conceptual clarification and analysis - analyzing data to make an argument and using our reasoning to prove it. defending positions to advance public policy.
