What’s missing in the dualistic descriptions of pa and leisure?
the kinaesthetic sensations associated with action ie mm tightening, stabilization, spatial awareness. so what it feels like to move through space.
What is ecology?
the branch of biology examining how organisms relate to their enviro and to each other.
What is body ecology?
how the body engages with its surrounding enviro through consciousness, perception, knowledge, and emotion.
What is phenomenal consciousness?
subjective experiences, awareness, and experience of feeling. the lived experience, what it feels like to perform, create, etc. so the lived-body experience. eg. having a run through that felt great vs one that felt bad.
What can be learned from the phenomenal consciousness thought experiments?
that someone may know everything there is to know about smthn, but would experiencing it allow the, to learn smthn?
What is conscious stream?
involves mental acts ie. feeling, thinking, deciding, remembering.
What is holism?
thinking of the body as a whole. the body is more than the sum of its parts. about experiencing ourselves as 1 human, and the lived experience. knowledge is from not only our senses, but our conscious stream. awareness comes from receiving data from sense organs and experiencing that info. moving and thinking occur simultaneously w/out focusing on either. mind is not reducible to matter. personal identity is in the consciousness/lived body.
What is totality?
assemblage of 2 or more independent wholes (dualist view)
What is lived experience/body?
phenomenal consciousness. the focus of phenomenology and existentialism. so feeling what youre doing. a unity of mental and physical activity in the lived body.
What is the strength of holism?
includes experience of body.
What is the weakness of holism?
less specific on details of what the lived body entails.
What is the key distinction btwn the metaphysical views?
- materialism - my ID is my body/DNA 2. dualism - my ID is my mind/soul 3. holism - my ID is my lived body
