- curiosity 2. attn to detail 3 acceptance of aporia
What do ethicists think about if we have a moral obligation to follow all rules?
depends on the context and the strength of your argument and considered judgment.
What are some reasons to obey rules?
self-interest, consistency (equality), fairness, greater good from ensuring order (utility).
What are some reasons to reject rules?
self-interest, immoral rule, violates integrity, causes no harm, anarchist attitude.
When is violating a rule not necessarily morally wrong?
if the rule itself is immoral, the violation is tolerated by the ethos, causes no (or accepted amount of harm), arguments in favour of following the rule are not cogent.
What is Brundsons argument?
movement-oriented character education in schools is justified based on a neo-aristotelian interpretation of PE. also, to be a virtuous person, one must cultivate moral, civic, performance, and intellectual virtues into their character.
What is phronesis?
practical wisdom, coming closer to being wise through mvmt.
What are Brundsons critiques of PHE?
- tendency to assume character and virtues will be caught and dont need to be taught. 2. focus on resumé virtues (showcasing oneself) over eulogy virtues (acting selflessly w/out anything in return) 3. little time spent on character devel bc often considered peripheral to PHE goals. 4. absence of phronesis and eudaimonia - superficial practices over authentic engagement.
