-IBD
cause of hypophosphataemic (vit D resisitant) rickets 1
-where is phosphate reaborated in the kidneys
-what is reabsorption of phosphate dependent on
imparited. resorbtion of phosphate
proximal renal tubules
parathormone (PTH)
types of vit d dependent ricket s 2
type 1 defect in renal-1 hydrolase
type 2 end organ unresponsiveness to 1,25 vit D3
clinical features of rickets
bone tenderness,
susceptibility for bone fractures, particularly greenstick fractures
soft, thinned skull bones – a condition known as craniotabes
skull bossing may be present and a delayed closure of the fontanelles.
bowed legs
thickened ankles and wrists;
knock knees
Spinal curvatures of kyphoscoliosis or lumbar lordosis The pelvic bones may be deformed.
A condition known as rachitic rosary can result as the thickening caused by nodules forming on the costochondral joints. This appears as a visible bump in the middle of each rib in a line on each side of the body. This somewhat resembles a rosary, giving rise to its name.
The deformity of a pigeon chest[10] may result in the presence of Harrison’s groove.
Hypocalcemia, a low level of calcium in the blood can result in tetany – uncontrolled muscle spasms. Dental problems can also arise.[10]
