epididymo-orchitis
testicular torsion
testicular tumours
diagnosis of hydrocele 2
clinical
-ultrasound if any doubt of diagnosisi or undelrying testies cannot be palpated
management of hydrocele
infantile hydroceles
-repaired if do not resolve spontaneously by the age of 1-2 yeears
adults
-conservative approch dependent on severity
-*further investigations required to exclude underlyinng cause like a tumour
undescended testes -management in children
detected at baby check or 8-week check
-referred to see a surgeon in the outpatient clinic
operated on as early as 3-6 months but certainly by their first birthday
differential diagnoisis for testicular pain in boys
- Testicular torsion
- Torsion of the appendage (Hydatid of Morgagni)
- Epidydimo-orchitis
- Hydrocele (rarely painful)
- Idiopathic scrotal oedema (usually bilateral, rarely painful
pain found in torted testis
SUDDEN severe
examination findings in torted testis 4
high riding
swollen red
hard
marked tenderness
pain in a torted hydatid
gradual onset
2-3 days
