Define rheumatoid arthritis
Chronic, autoimmune systemic illness characterised by symmetrical peripheral arthritis and other systemic features
7 classes of RA based on the 1987 ARA criteria
1- morning stiffness 2-Arthritis of 3 or more joint areas 3-arthritis of hand joint 4- Symmetric arthritis 5- Rheumatoid nodules 6- serum rheumatoid factor 7- radiographic changes
In the RA classification define the class morning stiffness
Morning stiffness in and around joints, lasting at least 1 hour before maximal improvement

Investigations for RA?
Rheumatoid factors (IgG, IgM)
Anti Cyclic Citrullinated Antibodies (anti CCP, ACPA),
X-ray
Symptoms of RA?
Pain, Stiffness, Immobility, Poor function, Systemic symptoms
Clinical signs of RA?
Swelling, tenderness, limitation of movement, redness, heat
Systemic features of RA?
Fatigue, weight loss ,anaemia,
Specific systems affected by RA?
Eyes, lungs, nerves, skin, kidneys
