protein

A

Mouth - physical chewing
Stomach - HCL and protease break down protein into tripeptides, di and amino acids

Q

fat

A

Mouth - physical +lipase
stomach - splits from other food
small ins - lipase breaks down into monoglyceride, glycerol and fatty acids. Bile emulsfies fat.

METABOLISM
- Fatty acids (monoglyceride + glycerol) absorbed by brush border of microvilli
- transported to the liver via heptic potral vein
- fat used as energy or sorted as fat, cushions internal organ

Q

carbs

A

mouth - physcial + amylase
small intestine - intestinal enzymes lactase, maltase and sucrase breaks down into monosaccharides ( glucose, galactose and fructose).

METABOLISM
brush border on microvilli break down + absorb monosaccahrides (glucose, fructose and galactose)
travel via the heptci portal vein to liver
liver converts galactse + fructose into glucose
glucose used as energy, glucogen stored as fat.
