Reversible Reactions-PAPER2 Flashcards
What will reversible reactions always reach?
Equilibrium
As the reactants react what happens to their concentrations
They fall so the forward reaction will slow down
What does equilibrium mean?
The forward reaction will be going at exactly the same rate as the backward one
What happens at equilibrium?
Both reactions are still happening but there is no overall effect
Equilibrium is only reached if the reversible reaction takes place…
In a closed system ( none of the reactants or products can escape and nothing else can get in )
What else does equilibrium depend on?
Temperature
Pressure
Concentration
Reversible reactions can be ……
Endothermic and exothermic.
If the reaction is endothermic in one direction, it will be exothermic in the other.
The energy transferred from and to the surroundings has to be….
equal
