Groups&Periodic Table- Paper 1 Flashcards
What is Group One?
The alkali metals, they can be found on the furthest left column.
What is the largest group of elements, found in the middle of the periodic table, called?
Transition metals. Common metals are often found here.
What is Group Seven?
The Halogens e.g. Iodine, Chlorine, Bromine.
What is Group 0?
The Noble gases, they are the least reactive elements known. e.g. helium, neon.
Why are Chlorine and Fluorine in the same group?
As they have the same amount of electrons in their outer shells.
Why are the noble gases so Unreactive?
As the have FULL OUTER SHELLS
Explain why calcium fluoride has a high melting point
As it has strong electrostatic forces of attraction and a giant ionic lattice meaning that lots of energy is required to overcome the attraction.
