Reticulo-endothelial Anatomy Flashcards
Name the layers of a lymph node and what is found with them
Outer cortex - consists of mature B cells organized into follicles which contain germinal centers containing activated B cells
Inner cortex - mature T cells
Medulla - lymphocytes, plasma cells, and macrophages
What is the largest aggregation of lymphoid tissue
spleen
What are the functions of the red and white pulp of the spleen
red pulp - destorys RBC
white pulp - immune system
What is the largest internal organ of the body
liver
What are the functional units of the liver and what are they lined by
sinusoids and they’re lined by hepatocytes and kupffer cells
Which vein provides the liver with 70% of its blood supply and provides nutrients
portal vein
What arteries supply the thymus
anterior intercostal and internal thoracic arteries
What is the thymus involved in
T cell production
What are the layers of the thymus and their contents
Cortex - comprised of immature and maturing T cells
Medulla - has lymphocytes and a particular feature found only in the thymus (hassels corpuscles)
Where does the thoracic duct being
cisterna chyli (L1)
Where does it pass through the diaphragm
T12
Where does the thoracic duct empty
Empties in the junction of the left internal jugular and subclavian veins
Where does the thoracic duct drain lymph from
lower half of the body, left half of head and neck, left half of chest
Where does the right lymphatic duct drain lymph from
right side of head and trunk, upper right limb and right side of chest
