Restrictive Pulmonary Disorders Flashcards
What are lung disorders?
loss of lung compliance, resulting lung expansion and increase lung stiffness (decrease in ability to inspire)
What are common lung alterations?
lung parenchyma, pleura and chest wall neuromuscular function
Diffuse interstitial lung disease
name used for restrictive diseases characterized by thickening of alveolar interstitium
Sarcoidosis
acute or chronic systemic disease with a presence of CD4+ T cells
Patho of Sarcoidosis
noncaseating epitheloid granulomas that affect multiple organ systems most commonly lymph nodes and lung tissues
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
a restrictive and occupational disease where inhaled organic agents are responsible for the inflammatory process ( predominant in nonsmokers)
Pathogenesis of hypersensitivity pneumonitis
precipitating Abs in the serum directed to the causative Ag
Si/Sx of hypersensitivity pneumonitis
chills sweating, shivering, myalgias. nausea, lethargy, headache and malaise
Occupational lung disease
result from inhalation of toxic gases or foreign particles
List of occupational lung disease and their causes
Pneumoconiosis: parchenchymal lung disease caused by inhalation of inorganic dust particles
Anthracosis- coal miner’s lung or black lung
Silicosis: silica inhalation
Asbestosis: asbestos inhalation
