Fluid and Electrolyte Homeostasis and Imbalances Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 4 subprocesses for fluid homeostasis?
A
- fluid intake
- fluid excretion
- fluid distribution
- fluid absorption
2
Q
What are the 2 fluid imbalances?
A
- saline imbalances
2. water imbalances
3
Q
What is the difference between the 2 types of fluid imbalances?
A
Saline imbalances is about the imbalance of volume or amount of fluid and water imbalance is about imbalance of concentration of the fluid.
4
Q
What is extracellular volume deficit?
A
it is the removal of a sodium-containing fluid from the the body. a decrease in saline in the same concentration as the normal ECF
5
Q
What are some of the etiologies of ECV deficit?
A
- emesis (vomiting)
- diarrhea
- adrenal insufficiency
- extensive diuretic use
- hemorrhage
- burns
6
Q
What are some signs and symptoms of ECV deficit?
A
sudden weight loss
postural blood pressure decrease
