Alt in Oxygen Transport Flashcards
What are the 2 types of erythrocyte disorders?
anemia and polycythemia
What are the subgroups of anemia?
relative (disturbances in the regulation of plasma volume) and absolute (actual decrease in number of RBCs)
Which 6 adaptations influence anemia?
- severity
2 pulmonary and cardiac system competence - duration
- underlying disease or condition
- oxygen requirements
- presence and severity of coexisting disease
Aplastic anemia
a stem cell disorder that is characterized by a reduction of hematopoietic tissue in the bone marrow
Describe the 2 types of aplastic anemia
Acquired- caused by physical and chemical agents and viral infections
Familial- panctyopenia , pancreatic deficiency in children
Nurse K think John has aplastic anemia what does she observe on the blood test? other tests?
low RBC, WBC, and platelets
other test include coagulation test and bone marrow biopsy
How is aplastic anemia treated?
bone marrow transplant if not aplastic anemia is fatal
Anemia of Chronic Renal Failure
failure of the renal endocrine function (impairs EPO production, bone marrow production, and blood loss)
How is anemia of chronic renal failure seen in a blood test?
decreased RBC count, low Hb, and Hematocrit values
Mean corpuscular volume (MCV)
average size of RBC
Mean corpuscular Hb (MCH)
average mass of hemoglobin in the RBC
Mean corpuscular Hb concentration (MCHC)
average concentration of hemoglobin in the RBC
What are the levels of MCV, MCH, & MCHC in anemia of chronic renal failure?
all are normal
