Respiratory zone components
Respiratory bronchioles
Alveolar ducts
Alveolar saccules
3 regions of the pharynx
Nasopharynx (terminates at soft palate)
Oropharynx (terminates above epiglottis)
Laryngopharynx (terminates at esophagus)
Larynx cartilages
Thyroid (1)
Epiglottic (1)
Cricoid (1)
Arytenoid (2)
Cuneiform (2)
Corniculate (2)
Laryngeal cavity
Space that extends from entrance of larynx to the cricoid cartilage. Contains laryngeal vestibule (vestibular folds or false cords)
Infraglottic cavity
Area below the vocal cords
Thyrohyoid membrane
Ligament connecting thyroid cartilage to the hyoid bone
Rima glottidis
Space between the true vocal cords
Layers of the tracheal wall
Respiratory mucosa
Submucosa
Hyaline cartilage
Adventitia
Lobar bronchi
Branches from right and left main bronchus.
3 in right lung
2 in left lung.
Segmental bronchi
Branches from lobar bronchi. Contains 13 in right lung and 8 in left.
Supplies bronchopulmonary segments.
Bronchioles
Branch from segmental bronchi. Branches repeatedly into terminal bronchioles.
Terminal bronchioles
Contain Clara cells.
Represents the end of the conducting zone.
