Research methods(writing aims and hypothesis) Flashcards
Directional hypothesis -
States the direction of the predicted difference between two conditions or two groups of participants. You are stating that people will do better in class when they sleep. (one tailed)
Non-directional
States their is a difference between the two conditions and but does not state the direction in which it travels. You are stating their will be a difference in the results of when people sleep to those who don’t sleep as much. (two tailed)
operationalised -
Clearly defines what the variables of interest are and how they are related.
If I replace the battery in my car, then my car will get better gas mileage.
If I eat more vegetables, then I will lose weight faster, as examples
Not operationalised -
There will be no difference or states there is a difference doesn’t suggest the direction in which the direction of results may travel.
