OCD (emotional characteristics)

A
  • Both components (obsessions and compulsions) serve a source of stress and anxiety. Sufferers understand their behaviour is excessive and feel embarrassment and shame.

OCD (cognitive characteristics)

A
  • Intrusive thoughts that are seen as inappropriate or forbidden.
    -Common themes include the idea of germs are everywhere. (recognise these are uncontrollable and a product of their own mind.
    -Also included the thought of something being over looked causing the anxiety of something not be satisfactory with the own persons needs.

-Such as hand washing and constant checking
-Can be mental for example praying or counting
-Individuals must feel like they must perform these actions or something dreadful may happen.
