OCD -
- Anxiety disorder
-Typically begins as a young adult life
-Two main components of compulsions and obsessions
OCD (emotional characteristics)
- Both components (obsessions and compulsions) serve a source of stress and anxiety. Sufferers understand their behaviour is excessive and feel embarrassment and shame.
OCD (cognitive characteristics)
- Intrusive thoughts that are seen as inappropriate or forbidden.
-Common themes include the idea of germs are everywhere. (recognise these are uncontrollable and a product of their own mind.
-Also included the thought of something being over looked causing the anxiety of something not be satisfactory with the own persons needs.
OCD (behavioural characteristics)
-Performed to reduce anxiety
-Such as hand washing and constant checking
-Can be mental for example praying or counting
-Individuals must feel like they must perform these actions or something dreadful may happen.
Depression -
Classed as a mood disorder
Depression (emotional characteristics)
-Sadness or lost of interest and pleasure in normal activities
Depression (behavioural characteristics) -
Changes in activity level may increase or decrease, this may include changes in appetite and sleep patterns.
Depression (cognitive characteristics) -
Results in negative thoughts and guilt, feeling of worthlessness. These people have a negative view of the world.
Phobias -
An anxiety disorder
Phobias (emotional characteristics) -
Extreme and persistent fear. Results in anxiety and panic.
Phobias (behavioural characteristic) -
Avoidance and freeze, or faint in result in a freeze response.
Phobias (cognitive characteristics) -
Irrational thinking and resistant to rational thinking, the person recognises the idea of their own irrational fears.
