What is a case study?
In depth piece of information containing data from one person’s point of view, or several points of view
Why do case studies use a variety of methods to collect data?
To gain a holistic overview of the participant
What is a weakness of the data collected in case studies?
They tend to result in a subjective analysis of the data as researchers usually have a close relationship with participant and are trying to support their own theories of behaviour
What is the main strength of case studies?
Able to gain insight into unusual behaviour through in-depth analysis
What is the main weakness of case studies?
Gathering data from one person or a small group means findings are hard to generalise to the wider population
