Research collected by yourself.
eg. surveys, questionaires, anthropometrics, interviews, testing
What is secondary research?
Research by other people
eg. books/TV/radio, market research
What is market research?
Collect a wide range of pre-existing information to make sure that your product will succeed in use.
eg. aimed audience, age, price
What should be considered for market research?
FORM - beauty and aesthetics
FUNCTION - Does it work?
FITNESS FOR PURPOSE - Can it be used an intended?
What is a design specification?
A list of conditions design must meet.
Each condition must have a justified reason backed up by research.
What is a manufacturing specification?
A list of conditions for exactly how to product should be made.
eg. type, size, quantity
What should be considered in a design brief?
Purpose - need for product
Objective - how product will fill gap in the market
Style/key ideas - appearance
Prediction of difficulties - any possible problems
Ergonomics
What can change a design brief>
If a problem is detected in the prototyping stage
If a new, more suitable material is released.
