Cotton - A vegetable fibre from the ripened seeds of a cotton plant
Wool - Animal protein from sheep fleeces
Silk - Protein fibre from silk moth
How are synthetic fibres made?
Nylon - 2 different chemical monomers
Polyester - Coal and oil
Lycra - Produced From chemicals
Characteristics of natural fibres
Cotton - strong, durable, absorbent, creases easily
Wool - Warm, soft, absorbent, Crease resistant
Silk - Smooth, lustrous, strong
Characteristics of synthetic fibres?
Nylon - Strong, Durable, Warm, Crease resistant
Polyester - Strong, durable, elastic, crease resistant
Lycra - Easily stretched, comfortable with other fabrics.
Typical uses of natural fibres?
Cotton - denim, flannel in Tshirts, trousers, blouses, shirts
Wool - Felt, flannel in jumpers, suits carpets
Silk - Chiffon, velvet in dresses, shirts, ties.
