Reliability of diagnosis Flashcards
:) Jacobsen et al (2005)
found there was good agreement in the diagnosis of schizophrenia between the ICD 10 and other classification systems. T/F it has inter rater reliability as the same findings were found between the ICD 10 and other classification systems for schizophrenia
:) Andrews
assessed 1500 patients using the dsm 4 and compared this to a diagnosis using the icd. he found agreement in diagnosis for depression, substance abuse and generalised anxiety. T/F Andrews study has inter rater reliability as there was good agreement between the dsm 4 and the icd for the diagnosis of depression substance dependence and generalised anxiety. however , Andrews only found 68% agreement between the dsm 4 and the icd. for post traumatic stress disorder there was poor agreement with the icd diagnosing twice as many cases. T/F suggesting the dsm 4 will not produce a consistent diagnosis so is not reliable for ptsd.
Morey (2019)
found that the dsm 5 was more reliable than the dsm 4 in the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder. T/F dsm 4 lacks reliability for diagnosing borderline personality disorder and the dsm 5 Is more applicable.
Goldstein (1988)
199 patients with schizophrenia were re diagnosed using the dsm 3 when they had originally been diagnosed using the dsm 2. she asked 2 experts to re diagnose a random sample of 8 patients. They were both given the case histories, but reference to the original diagnosis had been removed. the experts carried out the re diagnosis separately, using a single blind technique (where the only person who knows the hypothesis is the researcher) Goldstein found high levels of agreement between the two researchers in the diagnosis given. T/F Goldsteins study is high in inter rater reliability as it was checked with multiple clinicians for schizophrenia using the dsm 3.
HOWEVER
clin
stinchfield et al (2016)
using patients recruited from a treatment programme in Ontario and members of the local community, they diagnosed them using the dsm 5 and were able to accurately identify 91% of of plants as either having or had gambling disorder. T/F the dsm 5 has high test retest reliability for certain disorders.
