the psychological benefits conferred on group members particularly those associated with identification with ingroups.
what are some of the benefits of an ingroup
belonging and social support as well as a system or roles etc. to guide behaviour.

provide us with meaning by boosting our self-esteem.
what are negative stereotypes for intergroup threat?
intitially a type of stereotype threat, now seem to us to be a cause of threat involving characteristics of the outgroup that could have a negative impact on the ingroup

threats to power, resources and general welfare.

religion, values and belief systems
what type of group is more likely to experience threats
low poer groups are more likely than high power because high power groups react stronger.
