RBC: disseminated intravascular coagulation Flashcards
1
Q
DIC meaning
A
disseminated intravascular coagulation
2
Q
triggering event of DIC
A
sepsis, cancer, pregnancy complications
3
Q
what happens in DIC
A
- clotting factrs are activated throughout the body
- they satrt forming clots n small and middle sized vessels
- all these blood clots then start blocking blood flow to organs
- organs start to fail and may become necrotis
- platelets get used up responding to the clotting factors
so much clotting facotr used by, paitents start to haemorrhage
4
Q
symtoms of DIC from the organ dysfunction form the clots
A
- seizure, oliguria, haemoturia, hypoxia, tachycardia, hypotension, chest pain, cyanosis to extremities
5
Q
symptons of DIC from the lack of clotting factors and thrombocytopenia
A
petechiae, purpura, ecchymosis, spontaneous bleeding from nose, mouth GI system
6
Q
treatment of DIC
A
- wont stop until stimulus casuing coagulation is removed or treated
- IV fluids are given to help failure of heart and kidneys
- possibly anticoagulation or plasma can be given
liver will restore proper amount of coagulationfactors to the blood within 48 hours once stimulus is removed
