The practical procedure, what must also be checked before taking an X-ray of a patient?

A

The patient’s details (DOB, address etc)

ALso that they aren’t wearing any jewellery, URA or dentures.

Practical procedure steps?

A

1) Ask the patient to step into the machine and hold the handle
2) USe sterile bite peg - patients should bite down with their front teeth. For edentulous patients place some cotton wool
3) Adjust the height on the machine
4) Switch the positioning of the lights, Horizontal light to be in line with the frankfurt plane angle. The vertical line to be at the midline, and canine lines to be superimposed on the upper canines.
5) Move head support back and the black nobs to close/tighten.
6) Ask the patient to stick their tongue to the top of their mouth and remain still during the exposure

A

Position the film 3mm mesial to the mesial aspect of the canines. (if want to see more posterior and include the 8’s, then mesial to the 5’s)
Ask the patient to bite together
And check the collimator alignment
