What is a mucocele?
Is a mucous containing cyst lesion of the minor salivary glands.
Appears on the lips and tongue.
Considerations for oral analgesia?
Think about postoperative analgesia Start analgesia before LA wears off Sell the prescription to obtain the optimum response Up the LA dose Watch out for high-risk groups

Used topically as a gel

How does aspirin work? M
Works by reducing the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting COX 1 and 2. COX 1 more so.
What is the dosage of aspirin? D
300mg, 2 tablets 4x a day
What are the side effects of aspirin? S
Can cause GIT problems Hypersensitivity Overdose Aspirin burns LOng term use - renal failure
What does aspirin interact with? I
Anti-coagulants, ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers etc

What are groups of patients which should not be prescribed aspirin? G
Pregnant or breastfeeding women
Under 16’s - Reyes syndrome
Anyone with a history of Gastric disorders
Especially previous or active peptic ulcers
Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to NSAID
Bleeding disorders
What is some advice that can be given in relation to when and how to take aspirin?
After food
With water - prevent aspirin burns
How does ibuprofen work? M
Works by reducing prostaglandins by inhibiting cox1 and 2.
What is the dose of ibuprofen? D
400mg 3x daily
What are the side effects of ibuprofen? S
Gastric irritant
Hypersensitivity
What are some other drugs which interact with ibuprofen?
anti-coagulants, ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers and CaCB check BNF
What are some groups of patients to be careful and mindful of, with ibuprofen??
Asthmatics - hypersensitivity
GI disorders
Patients with NSAIDS allergies
Previous or active peptic ulcer disease
