Radiology Exam Qs Flashcards
What are some properties of ghost images?
Higher due to beam angulation
Distorted
Appear on the opposing side on the radiograph
What is the beam angulation on OPT
8 degrees
What are some examples of ghost images?
Earings hyoid bone soft palate dentures and fixed appliances Soft tissue calcification Metal restorations
What are some indications for an OPT?
When you want to see the whole dentition and surrounding structures. Ortho to see tooth development. perio - give an idea of bone levels. Person cant tolerate intra-oral radiographs. TMJ evaluation Fractures and trauma Large lesions Developmental and acquired anomalies
What are X-rays in terms of electrons and how is the image created?
X-rays are produced when fast-moving electrons are slowed rapidly.
X-ray source then interacts with the object (jaw and teeth) to create an image which is then processed by a computer to create an image.
What is the size of the rectangular collimator used (diameter)?
60mm with a spacer cone
How can you reduce the dose with X-rays?
Used rectangular collimation instead of circular (30%reduction)
High tube kVp
Reducing the area exposed
What type of radiograph should be used to see retained roots?
OPT
Periapical
How happens to the image on a radiograph if the patient is too close to the source?
The image will be magnified horizontally and vice versa
