Classification of gingival recession?
3 types
type 1 - no loss IP attachment papilla intact M and D
type 2 - loss of IP attachment but less than or equal to buccal attachment loss
type 3 - loss of Ip attachment > buccal attachment loss
Aime of supportive perio care?
Maintain perio health
detect + treat recurrence
maintain levels of disease if resolution not possible
manage tooth loss
Give examples of systemic disease risks for perio?
Diabetes HIV Endocrine diseases (eg thyroid) Osteoporosis Hypertension
What are the signs and symptoms of acute NUG?
Ulcerated necrotic papilla Yellowish, white or grey slough Develop quickly pain Bleeding Halitosis
What makes up biological width? and what depth is it commonly?
It’s the Connective tissue + Junctional epithelium. Usually 2mm
What is the effect of occlusal trauma on a diseased periodontium?
Occlusal trauma combined with plaque-induced inflammation exacerbates the loss of attachment.
Tx levels for NUP?
1) Ultrasonic debridement - disrupt biofilm
2) chlorohexidine mouthwash 2x daily
3) Systemic antibiotics, not first line of treatment. Examples metronidazole, amoxicillin
4) smoking cessation, vitamins and diet and OH
