For any multi-rooted tooth, when removing with forceps, do you want to twist the tooth? if not why?
No, because the tooth will fracture and this will make getting the tooth out more difficult
What are some useful tips that should always be used with Ex teeth?
Always;
use apical pressure
use your non-dominant hand for support
try to attach the forceps as far down the root of the tooth as possible
What is the purpose of luxators and when are they used?
Luxators are used before forceps and they are used to break the PDL and widen the socket
On what side of the tooth are luxators used?
The distal buccal side and then move mesially. Use apical pressure then rotate from D - M.
On what side of the tooth must Luxators never be used and why?
You must not come from the lingual side as there is potential to damage the lingual nerve.
With an ELEVATOR, what basic mode of action should you carry out to move the tooth?
Wheel and axle (rotation)
- Place in at an angle
- Wedge roughly ar the CEJ
- Rotate instrument
What basic mode of technique is used for LUXATORS?
Wedge
What are the basic principles that should be always carried out before and during extractions?
Always risk assess - ensure good planning and check MH
Use aseptic technique
Minimise trauma to the bone and soft tissues
