Radial nerve Flashcards
Where is the radial nerve located after it is formed?
Posterior to axillary artery
What does the radial nerve do in the axilla?
Gives off posterior cutaneous nerve of arm
What does the radial nerve do after it leaves the axilla?
Travels in radial groove
on posterior surface of humerus
What is the radial nerve accompanied by?
Profunda brachii artery
What does the radial nerve do in the posterior arm?
Gives off branches
supply three heads of triceps
also lower lateral cutaneous nerve of arm
and posterior cutaneous nerve of forearm
What does the radial nerve do at the end of the posterior arm?
Travels anteriorly to lateral epicondyle
What does the radial nerve travel though after it passes over the lateral epicondyle?
Cubital fossa
What does the radial nerve do in the cubital fossa?
Divides into superficial radial nerve
deep radial nerve
What does the deep branch of the radial nerve become? When?
Becomes the posterior interosseus nerve
When it emerges between the two heads of supinator
What are the motor functions of the radial nerve?
Radial nerve gives off branches supplying
-three heads of triceps
Superficial radial nerve supplies
- anconeus
- brachioradialis
- extensor carpi radialis longus
- extensor carpi radialis brevis
Deep radial nerve supplies
- supinator
- entesor digitorum
- extensor digiti minimi
- extensor carpi ulnaris
Posteior interossues branch supplies
- abductor pollicis longus
- extensor pollicis longus
- extensor pollicis brevis
- extensor indices
What are the sensory functions of the radial nerve?
Posterior cutaneous nerve of arm
supplies posterior lower arm
Lower lateral cutaneous nerve of arm
supplies anterior lower lateral arm
Posterior cutaneous nerve of forearm
supplies thin strip of skin on posterior forearm
Superficial branch of radial nerve
supplies dorsal surface of lateral 3.5 fingers and associated palm area (not tips = median nerve)
