Cubital Fossa Flashcards
What is the cubital fossa?
Area of transition between arm and forearm
Where is the cubital fossa?
Anterior surface of elbow joint
What are the borders of the cubital fossa?
Superior
Medial
Lateral
What forms the superior border of the cubital fossa?
Imaginary line between medial and lateral epicondyles of humerus
What forms the medial border of the cubital fossa?
Lateral border of pronator tere
What forms the lateral border of the cubital fossa?
Medial border of brachioradialis
What forms the floor of the cubital fossa?
Brachialis muscle - proximal
Supinator muscle - distal
What forms the roof of the cubital fossa?
Bicipital aponeurosis
Fascia
Subcutaneous tissue, skin
What structures does the roof of the cubital fossa contain?
Median cubital vein
Medial cutaneous nerve of forearm
Lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm
What are the contents of the cubital fossa? What are their relative positions?
Biceps brachii tendon - lateral
Brachial artery - middle
Median nerve - medial
What does the brachial artery do in the cubital fossa?
In the apex of the cubital fossa
It bifurcates into radial and ulnar arteries
How does the median nerve leave the cubital fossa?
Between the two heads of pronator teres
What is an additional structure of the cubital fossa?
Maybe radial nerve
Where is the radial nerve located in the cubital fossa?
Located laterally to biceps brachii
between brachialis and brachioradialis
What does the radial nerve do in the cubital fossa?
Divides into its superficial and deep branches
