Arteries Flashcards
What does the axillary artery arise from?
Continuation of the subclavian artery
Where does the axillary artery arise?
Lateral border of first rib
What is the axillary artery enclosed in?
Axillary sheath
What are the three phases of the axillary artery?
First - medial to pectoralis minor
Second - posterior to pectoralis minor
Third - lateral to pectoralis minor
Where do the anterior and posterior circumflex humeral arteries arise from?
Axillary artery
at level of surgical neck
Where do the anterior and posterior circumflex humeral arteries travel to?
Wrap around the surgical neck of the humerus
anteriorly and posteriorly
What else arises from the axillary artery near where the anterior and posterior circumflex humeral arteries arise?
Subscapular artery
What does the brachial artery arise from?
Axillary artery
Where does the brachial artery arise?
Inferior border of teres major
What does the brachial artery do once it’s arisen?
Gives off branch
the profunda brachii artery
Where does the profunda brachii artery travel?
Travels in radial groove
on posterior surface of humerus
along with radial nerve
What does the profunda brachii artery supply?
The triceps brachii
How does the profunda brachii artery end?
Near elbow joint
gives off network of vessels
Where does the brachial artery travel?
Descends down arm
close to median nerve
Enters cubital fossa
What does the brachial artery do in the cubital fossa?
At the apex of the cubital fossa
it divides into radial and ulnar arteries
