Quiz 7 Flashcards
Where does the Light Independent Rxn occur?
The Stroma
What is another word for LIR?
Calvin Cycle
What is the equation for LIR?
6CO2 + 12NADPH + 18ATP -> C6H12O6
What is carbon fixation?
Converting inorganic carbon (CO2) to organic carbon.
Every turn of a Calvin Cycle fixes how many carbon atoms?
1 Carbon atom
What is used to start the Calvin Cycle?
6CO2 and 6 Ribulose bisphosphate (RuBP, 5C-2P).
What two things occur during the Calvin Cycle?
Reduction and Regeneration
What happens in Reduction?
Gaining e- and more energy. 12ATP -> 12 ADP+Pi
How many electrons are used in Reduction?
24e-
What is the result of Reduction?
Glyceraldehyde Phosphate (12 G3P, 3C-1P)
What happens in Regeneration?
10 G3P are rearranged. 6ADP+Pi -> 6ATP. This takes it back to RuBP.
What happens to 2 G3P?
It is sent to the cytoplasm. The bond is broken, generating the energy to turn it into sugar. This sugar is then used for either starch, cellular respiration, or the cell wall.
