Quiz 6 (Ch. 7) Flashcards
antecedents
stimuli or events that precede an operant response
stimulus control
behavior more likely to control when antecedent stimulus was present
stimulus class
stimuli group that has same functional effect on behavior
discriminative stimulus (SD)
antecedent stimulus present when behavior is reinforced
stimulus discrimination training
process of reinforcing behavior only when antecedent stimulus (SD) is present
2 steps of stimulus discrimination training
1) when SD is present -> behavior reinforced
2) when other antecedent stimuli besides SD are present, behavior isn’t reinforced
S-delta (S△)
antecedent stimulus that’s present when behavior is NOT reinforced
three-term contingency (ABCs)
consequence (reinforcer or punisher) is contingent on occurrence of behavior only in presence of antecedent stimulus
-SD -> R -> SR or SP
-SD = discriminative stimulus
R = response (instance of behavior)
SR or SP = reinforcer or punisher
generalization
behavior occurs in presence of stimuli that’s similar in some ways to SD that’s present during stimulus discrimination training
generalization gradient
the more similar a stimulus is to SD, the more likely a behavior occurs in presence of the stimulus
-less similar stimuli to SD -> behavior less likely to occur in presence of stimuli
-also occurs when response occurs in different circumstances (context, time, people)
