Quiz 11 Pt. 2 (Ch. 23) Flashcards
behavioral contract
a.k.a. contingency or performance contract
-written agreement between 2+ people in which one or more agree to engage in specified lvl. of target behavior(s)
-consequence will be administered contingent on (non)occurrence of behavior
5 components of behavioral contract
1) identify target behaviors
2) state how target behaviors are measured
3) state when behavior is performed
4) identify reinforcement or punishment contingency
5) identify who implements contingency
1) identify target behaviors
include undesirable behavior to be decreased, desirable behavior to be increased, or both
2) state how target behaviors are measured
those responsible for implementing contract must have evidence of (non)occurrence of target behavior
-client and manager must agree on method for measuring target behavior
methods for measuring target behavior
permanent products, automated recording
-direct observation and documentation by manager or agreed-upon third-party
3) state when behavior is performed
contract must have time frame that states when behavior must(n’t) occur for contingencies to be implemented
4) identify reinforcement or punishment contingency
manager uses pos. or neg. reinforcement or punishment to help client perform or refrain from target behavior
5) identify who implements contingency
-involves 2+ parties, 1 engages in specified lvl. of target behavior
-other party implements reinforcement or punishment contingency
-both can engage in specified lvls. of target behavior
–each party’s behavior change reinforces that of other
2 types of behavioral contracts
1) one-party (unilateral)
2) two-party (bilateral)
one-party contract
one person seeks to change target behavior and arrange reinforcement or punishment contingencies w/ manager, who implements contingencies
-used when person wants to increase desirable behaviors or decrease undesirable ones
-manager may be psychologist, counselor. behavior analyst, friend or family member
-manager mustn’t stand to gain from contingencies and implement them as written
best person to act as manager
one trained in behavior modification who has no personal relationship w/ contractee
two-party contract
both parties identify target behaviors for change and contingencies
-written between those who’ve a relationship w/ e/o
–spouses, parents and child, siblings, friends, coworkers
quid pro quo contract
one thing given in return for another
-when one’s target behavior are tied to other’s, one’s failure can result in failure of contract
–avoided in separate contingency for each person’s target behavior
parallel contract
-2 people seek behavior change
–specify behavior to be changed and consequence
-behavior and consequence for parties are independent of e/o
negotiating one-party contract
manager negotiates w/ client until they agree on acceptable lvl. of target behavior, consequences, and time frame
