Q

one-party contract

A

one person seeks to change target behavior and arrange reinforcement or punishment contingencies w/ manager, who implements contingencies

-used when person wants to increase desirable behaviors or decrease undesirable ones

-manager may be psychologist, counselor. behavior analyst, friend or family member

-manager mustn’t stand to gain from contingencies and implement them as written

Q

quid pro quo contract

A

16
Q

negotiating two-party contract

A

parties may expect change in other’s behavior while seeing no reason to change theirs

-psychologist helps both understand that their situation will improve only if both agree to participate and make changes pleasing to other

17
Q

rule-governed behavior

A

contract established rule that contractee states later in appropriate circumstances as prompt or self-instruction to engage in target behavior

-when contractee states rule, it may create an aversive physiological state (anxiety) -> engage in target behavior -> escape from aversive state

18
Q

why do behavioral contracts work?

A

consequences, public commitment

-rule-governed behavior, EO
