What are the drugs to treat TB?
Rifampin

Indications for Rifampin
TB and meningitis (Niesseria or H. Flu)
What does rifampin do to CytP450?
Induces
-so can decrease the concentrations of other drugs

MOA of Isoniazid
inhibits synthesis of mycoloic acid, which is a component of TB cell wall
What BB warning is there for isoniazid?
hepatotoxicit
What adverse reactions are most common for isoniazid?
CNS
-peripheral neuropathy, seizures
Drug-food interactions
-acetaminophen, carbamazepine, valproate
What are some contraindications to pyrazinamide?
Hepatic damage and gout (worsens both)
Adverse effects of Ethambutol?
Optic neuritis
-decreases visual acuity
What age is the cut off for ethambutol?
13 years +
Indications for streptomycin?
Moderate to severe susceptible TB infections
Should you prescribe streptomycin by itself all willy-nilly?
No, there is a lot of resistance to it.
Adverse effects of streptomycin
Ototoxicity,**
paresthesia, fever, urticaria (+ more)
What is the black box warning for Streptomycin?
Those with impaired renal function will have more of a risk of neurotoxic reactions
