What should you explain to clients before assessment
The purpose of the assessment
What is involved
To whom the information will be disclosed
How reports will be stored and for how long
When should youe xercise caution in drawing inferences froabm assessments
- When they are in the process of development
- When they are applied outside their established purpose
- WHen they are used informally
Can we provide a second opinion and evaluate reports
Yes but we should be aware that we have not evaluated the client
When can information collected through assessment be used for another purpose
With consent of the client
when required by law
WHen information is deidentified and used in the course of approved resaerch
What should you be aware of when assessing CALD individuals
- They might not understand concepts of informed consent
- Their experience may affect their readiness to be assessed - eg trauma
- The suitability of available assessment toolds and adapt assessment to reflect accurately each client’s capabilities
When sharing info how much should you share
Only that which is essential for the effectiveness of the psychological service
Why would test documents be exempted from the privacy legislation or freedom of information
Because it might invalidate the utility of the test
May impair the ability of the psychologists to perform their duties properly
May breach contractual arrangemenets under which psychologists are supplied with test materials
What should happen if a psychologist leaves a team and is not replaced
another psychologist should be responsible for this data and the cleint informed
What should you do when delegating tasks to assistants supervisees, students ETC
- Make sure the delegates are aware ofthe code when completing the task
- Make sure they are competent to undertake th task
- Oversea the delegate to make sure they perform tasks competently
Can non psycholgoists administer and score some tests?
Yes if they are suitably trained
Can non-psychologists apply decision rules on the basis of cut-off scores
YEs but interpretation and report is the responsiblity of the psychologist
Can a single IQ score rationale a client’s access to or withdrawal of services
NO!!!
