This is the Brief Cognitive Status Exam and it is a cognitive screener that can be administered before the WMS-IV if there are concerns around alertness and ability to complete the WMS-IV
What can the WMS-IV be compared to and why
The WMS-IV can be compared to other Wechsler Scales like the WAIS to answer referral questions
What is a weakness of the WMS-IV
The scale takes an hour to complete which can be a major barrier to its use particularly if you are assessing someone with low alertness or cognitive ability
Can the WMS-IV be used as a brief screener?
No as it might lead to practise effect

culturally and linguistically diverse populations
Are there Australian norms for the WMSI-IV
No but the research suggests that the US norms are sufficient for the Australian population
Can the WMS-IV be used with people with disabilities, CALD or indigenous people
Yes but caution is recommended as the WMS-IV has not been standardised for these populations
