Moderating variable
affects the strength of relationship between IV and DV

Mediating variable
explains WHY two things are related
- IV causes
(explains, e, mediating)
Confounding variable
hypothetical or third variable not taken into account during analysis that can affect the study
- IV does not cause the confounding variable
Validity
- bulls eye
- extent to which a measure reflects the phenomenon being studied
(I’m valid, I have a point [vs. if i’m reliable, that means i’m consistent])
Reliability
consistency in results
Confirmation Bias
actively seek out only confirming facts
Belief Perseverance
ignore/rationalize disconfirming facts
- my belief will persevere over conflicting information I’m told

individual participant changes their behavior because they are aware of being observed

Dependency Ratio
ratio of people who can’t work (too young/too old) to the number of people who can work
