- Cytosine and Guanine
What bases does RNA consist of?
- Adenine and uracil
- Cytosine and Guanine
What is the structure of a DNA?
Double helix
What is the structure of RNA?
Single strand
What is the stability of DNA?
Very stable and long lasting
What is the stability of RNA?
Unstable and breaks quickly
Where is DNA found?
Nucleus
Where is RNA found?
Nucleus and cytoplasm
What are the varieties of DNA?
Only one form
What are the varieties of RNA?
mRNA, tRNA, rRNA
What is the process called to replicate DNA?
Semi conservative replication
What is the process called to turn DNA into mRNA?
Transcription
Describe the process of transcription
- One strand of DNA acts as a template strand to construct mRNA molecule
- RNA polymerase links to the template strand and inserts mRNA nucleotides one at a time according to the rules of complementary base pairing
- Stop sequence- ends mRNA, RNA polymerase leaves
What is tRNA?
Transfer RNA
What is mRNA?
Messenger RNA
What is rRNA?
Ribosomal RNA
What is the role of the tRNA?
Carries specific amino acid to ribosome
How does tRNA tend to fold up?
By complementary base pairing
What is triplet code?
Sequence divided into triplets
