Properties of Matter Vocab Flashcards
Density
The amount of matter composed in a certain space
Volume
The amount of space an object takes up
Mass
The amount of matter of an object
Water Displacement
Finding the volume by using the displaced water and subtracting it from the original volume.
Phase Change Diagram
A diagram that uses lines to represent the phase changes of a certain substance
Phase Change
When a substance undergoes a change of its state of matter. ex. Going from Freezing to a solid.
Deposition
When a gas turns to a solid
Sublimation
When a solid turns to a gas
Melting Point
The temperature where a solid will melt
Boiling Point
Temperature where liquid turns to vapor or gas
Freezing Point
Temperature where liquid turns to solid
Expansion
When particles move farther apart and increase
Contraction
When particles move closer together and decrease
Solute
The minor component in a solution that is dissolved.
Solvent
A substance that is capable of dissolving other substances.
Solution
A well mixed mixture containing a solvent and at least 1 solute
Soluble
Able to be dissolved in water
Insoluble
Incapable to be dissolved
Dissolve
To mix together and become a liquid
Mixture
Combining two different substance together that can still be separated
Conservation of Mass
Mass can’t be changed through chemical reactions
Solublility
The state of being soluble
