Prompting/Transfer of Stimulus Control Flashcards
Prompting definition
Giving stimuli before a behvaior to increase the likelihood that person will engage in the target behavior at the correct time
Response prompt
Behavior of another person evokes the target behvavior from the target person
Verbal prompt
Hints, instructions, comments to guide/direct behavior
Gestural prompt
Physical movements that indicate how, where or what
- ex: pointing to indicate where
Modeling prompt
Demonstration of the entire target behvaior by another person
- parent uses spoon to eat peas, baby watches and does the same
Physical Guidance prompt
Another person physically assists in the execution of target behavior
- VERY INTRUSIVE
Three Step prompting
Use prompts progressively
- Verbal, Modeling, Physical Guidance prompts
Stimulus prompt
Stimulus is changed, added, removed to encourage target behavior
Within Stimulus prompt
Changing stimulus in some way
- changing location, size, shape, colour etc.
Extra Stimulus prompt
Adding a stimulus to the SD
Picture prompts
Drawings or photos
- symbols
Auditory prompts
Sounds
Environemental prompts
Alterations/Additions to the physical surroundings
- ex: changing classroom seating arrangement
Transfer of Stimulus Control
Prompts are faded, reduced, eliminated so the target behavior occurs to the normal stimulus alone
- behavior continues to be reinforced
Fading
Gradual elimination of prompting so that eventually it is no longer needed
Response prompt Fading
Response prompt is gradually lessened
Fading WITHIN prompt
Same prompt is used but id DECREASED in magnitude
Fading ACROSS prompts
Prompt is changed
Most-to-Least prompting and fading
(Decreasing Assistance)
Prompts change from MORE to LESS intrusive
- start with MOST intrusive prompt
Least-to-Most prompting and fading
(Increasing Assistance)
Prompts change from LESS to MORE intrusive
- start with LEAST intrustive prompt
Graduated Guidance
Uses fading physical guidance prompts
- pressure/contact is reduced
Shadowing
Follows learner’s movement WITHOUT CONTACT
Spatial Fading
Focus of guidance
- fingers to hand to wrist to elobow
Stimulus prompt fading
Stimulus prompt is DECREASED in magnitude or frequency
Prompt Delay
Present stimulus, wait certain # of seconds, if behvaior does not occur, provide the prompt
