Antecedent interventions Flashcards
Antecedent Interventions
Antecedent stimuli are manipulated to evoke desirable behaviors that can be reinforced
- AKA Antecedent control procedures OR antecedent manipulations
7 Steps of Antecedent Intervention
- Presenting, modifying, developing new S^D for desirable behaviors
- Presenting EO for desirable behavior (setting goals)
- Decreasing response effort for desirable behavior (nudge theory)
- Removing or modifing existing S^D for undesirable behavior (desirable alternative behavior should be encouraged instead)
- Presenting AO for undesirable behavior
- Increasing response effort for undesirable behavior (counter of 3.)
- Noncontingent reinforcement (NCR)
Low response effort
Making a task/action easier or more accessible
NCR (Noncontingent Reinforcemenet)
Antecedent intervention in which stimuli that are known reinforcers are delivered on aschedule independant of behavior responses
- reinforcers delivered on a fixed-time (FT) or variable-time (VT)
- combined with DRO decreases adventitious reinforcement of undesirable behavior
Positive VS Negative VS Automatic reinforcement
Positive: Adding something to increase behavior
Negative: Removing something to increase behavior
Automatic: Physical manipulation to increase behavior
S^D
Discriminative Stimulus
- reinforcement is avalible following a particular behavior
- stimulus that promises that behavior -> consequence
ex: phone rings (S^D) -> you answer it (behavior) -> talk (consequence)
MO
Motivating Operations
- alters the value of a reinforcer, affecting the likelyhood of the behavior
