Prokaryotic Cells Flashcards
What organelles do prokaryotic cells contain
-murine cell wall
-cell surface membrane
-70S ribosomes
-flagellum
-slime capsule
-plasmid
What does the cell wall do
Prevents a change in shape and provide structural support
What does the cell-surface membrane do?
Controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell
What do 70S ribosomes do?
Used for proteins. They read strands of RNA and use the information to build proteins for amino acids.
What does the flagellum do
A hair like structure that rotates to make the cell move
(Not in every cell)
What does the slime capsule do
Protects the cell from the immune system
What do the plasmids do
Small loops of DNA that are not part of the cells main genetic material
Binary fission (Prokaryotic cell replication) step by step
1- DNA replicated
2-cell gets bigger and genetic material moves to opposite poles
3-the cytoplasm begins to divide and the new cell walls begin to form
4-the cytoplasm divides and two daughter cells for,
What is murein
A type of glycoprotein
