Cell Specialisation Flashcards
What is a stem cell
Stem cells are on differentiated cells that continually divide and become specialised
What does a totipotent do?
Divide into any body cell
Pluripotent cells
Found in embryo and become almost any cell type (not the placenta)
Multipotent cells
-Found in mature mammals
-limited number of cells
-found in bone marrow
Unipotent cells
Only differentiate into same cell type (e.g skin cells)
What are the animal tissues
-muscle
-epithelial
-bone
-glandular
Plant tissues
-mesophyll
-xylem
-phloem
What is a muscle
A specialised tissue that has the ability to contract and conduct electrical impulses
What are the three types of muscle
-smooth (involuntary)
-skeletal (voluntary)
-cardiac (heart)
Epithelial cells
-The small intestine is lined with epithelial cells
-Epithelial tissue colour is the external and internal surface of the body forming a protective barrier
-Epithelial tissue that occurs on the internal surface of the body is known as endothelium
