Active Transport And Osmosis Flashcards
What are aquapourins
Proteins embedded in the membrane that regulate the flow of water (osmosis)
What are 4 factors that influence the movement of water in diffusion
-concentration gradient
-the presence of aquaporins
-pressure
-the amount of water present in the cytoplasm and exterior environment
What is active transport
The movement of molecules or ions into or out of a cell from a region of low concentration to high concentration using ATP and carrier proteins
What is step one of active transport
Molecule or ion binds to the specific receptor sites on the carrier protein
Step 2 of active transport
ATP binds to the carrier protein causing hydrolysis
Step 3 of active transport
Protein changes shape in molecule/ion is released inside
Step 4 of active transport
Phosphate is released from the protein, causing the protein to return to its original shape phosphate, then recombines ATP and ADP in respiration
